Detailed Itinerary

Day 0 – Arrival

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). A Kilimanjaro Joyful Adventures representative meets you and transfers you to your hotel in Arusha. Overnight with the essentials for a comfortable stay before the safari begins.

Day 1 – Arusha to Central Serengeti
~6 hr drive (240 km) Seronera area Big Five habitat

Your safari begins around 8:00 AM with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. You drive toward Serengeti National Park (approximately 240 km / 6 hours). The name Serengeti means “endless plains” in the local language – watching the grassland stretch to the horizon is breathtaking. Covering 14,763 km², the park supports the greatest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa and is home to the Big Five (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard) as well as impala and many other species.

The central portion – known as Seronera – is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. The Seronera River provides a vital water source and attracts a wide range of animals. Look out for the many lion prides that thrive here and for the famous granite kopjes that rise from the sea of grass and shelter a variety of flora and fauna. A picnic lunch is taken during the day-long game drive. Evening dinner and overnight in your Serengeti accommodation.

Day 2 – Full Day Central Serengeti
Full-day game drives Lion prides & leopards

You can choose a relaxed breakfast and depart around 9:00 AM for a full-day game drive with packed lunch (returning around 6:00 PM), or leave at 6:00 AM for an early morning drive, return for breakfast and rest, then head out again in the afternoon.

You continue to explore the central Serengeti (Seronera). Even outside the peak migration season, the interactions and survival of the local lion prides provide excellent year-round game viewing. Leopards are also frequently seen in this area. Picnic lunch during the drives; evening dinner and overnight in your Serengeti accommodation.

Day 3 – Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro
Morning Serengeti drive Transfer to Ngorongoro

After breakfast you enjoy a morning game drive in Serengeti National Park, then depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a picnic lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest collapsed volcanic crater in the world – fourteen kilometres of isolated natural beauty. Surrounded by a ring of extinct volcanoes, the crater floor is dotted with watering holes and shelters some 30,000 animals. Dinner and overnight on the crater rim or in the highlands.

Day 4 – Ngorongoro Crater & return to Arusha
~5 hr crater floor drive Big Five opportunity Return by ~18:00

An early start: after a quick breakfast you descend into the crater floor around 6:30 AM. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera, with a floor of about 260 km² and a depth of over 2,000 feet. The 5-hour game drive on the floor offers outstanding animal viewing – African elephant, buffalo, black rhino, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs and lions are found in good numbers. Keep your camera ready.

After a picnic lunch at the scenic Hippo Pool you make a steep ascent to the crater rim and begin the approximately 4-hour drive back to Arusha. You are dropped at your preferred location in Arusha by around 18:00. With an incredible experience and lasting memories, this is the end of your safari.
